10 Steps to Stopping a Prank Caller

1. Don't pick up the phone if it is an unknown caller.
2. If you pick up the phone, don't talk because that just encourages the prank caller.
3. Contact your phone company and ask them to trace the prank caller. Some phone companies will put a "trap" on the phone line to trace the caller.
4. Have your phone company block all anonymous calls.
5. Take your phone off the hook for a couple of hours.
6. Use scare tactics (say "trace this call" into the phone because it will make the prank caller think you are telling the phone company to trace their number.)
7. Use caller ID (*69) to trace the caller.
8. Find out the general location of the caller using a free reverse cell phone lookup. This will give you a better idea of whether you might already know the caller.
9. Change your voicemail so that it states that you have been receiving harassing calls and there is now a trap on the line.
10. Run your own personal reverse cell phone lookup to find out more information about the caller including name, address, where the call is coming from and the phone company of the caller.
